CCAAL, Inc. and Garrison School Cultural Center In the News

Thursday, February 22 2018

The Garrison School Cultural Center of Liberty will host a mobile museum exhibit on Sunday March 4th at 2:30 p.m. at 502 N. Water Street for Women’s History Month.

This exhibit is an interactive way to explore the aspects of how cooking has changed since the original Economy Cookbook was published by the Ladies of the First Presbyterian Church of Liberty in 1880 and again in 1903. Author, Cheryl McCann’s book, Cooking in Clay County based on the book Stirring Up History: The meals, Memoirs, and Memories of our Ladies of Clay County will feature biographical information on the women who contributed recipes, providing a magnificent, immersive adventure in old-fashioned cooking. She will discuss the artifacts, photos, books and posters in her exhibit presentation.

The exhibit will also feature Clay County African American women chefs who were employed in local businesses, restaurants, and institutions of Liberty and other northland cities of Clay County in a recipe book, “Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread” edited by Garrison Historian, Dr. Cecelia Robinson. This community event will allow residents to share stories, pictures, recipes and family histories from loved ones and the food culture they have shared with us over the generations in a community pot luck.

Please come prepared to get involved. The event is free and open to the public.
